Get your diesel on the schedule

Straight answers before you drive over

Where does North Georgia Truck and Diesel Service work?

The shop sits at 100 Pottery Rd in Commerce, GA, and handles trucks from Commerce and nearby towns like Jefferson, Athens, and Gainesville. Most customers drop the truck at the shop. If you are coming from farther out, call (678) 531-3504 and we will find a time that works for the drive.

How do I get my truck on the schedule?

Call (678) 531-3504 during shop hours, Monday through Friday. Tell us what the truck is doing, the make, and the mileage. We will book the earliest open slot and tell you roughly how long the job should take before you roll in. Weekday mornings usually fill first, so calling early helps.

What should I bring or do before dropping off my truck?

Bring the keys, any check engine light codes you already have, and a short list of symptoms: when the problem happens, whether it is cold or hot, and anything you have already replaced. Leave the bed clear if we are working on the fuel or cooling system. That saves diagnostic time on the day of the visit.

What happens on the day of a diagnostic visit?

We start with a scan and a road test, then check the specific system involved: injectors, turbo, cooling, or fuel delivery. You get the findings in plain terms, what part failed, and the order of the repair before any wrench turns. Nothing gets replaced until you approve the plan.

What does a check engine light visit involve?

We pull the codes, but codes only point at a system, not the failed part. So we test: fuel rail pressure, boost leaks, injector balance rates, or sensor readings depending on what the code says. You leave knowing the actual cause, not just a parts-cannon guess based on the code number.

How often does a diesel pickup need a tune up?

For most pickup diesels, plan on a tune up around the intervals your manufacturer lists, adjusted for how you use the truck. Towing heavy loads around north Georgia shortens those intervals. A tune up covers filters, fuel system checks, and a look at boost and coolant condition. Call (678) 531-3504 and we will suggest a schedule based on your mileage and use.

Can I keep driving with a boost leak or failing intercooler?

A small leak usually means sluggish response and higher exhaust gas temps, which is hard on the turbo over time. A large leak or a cracked intercooler can leave you low on power or limping home. If you hear a whistle or see coolant loss, get it checked before it turns into a turbo or head gasket job.

What signs point to a fuel injector problem?

Rough idle, white or gray smoke, a diesel knock at startup, and fuel mileage dropping are the usual clues. On many trucks the engine will also throw injector balance rate codes. We test each injector before replacing anything, because one bad injector does not mean all of them need to go.

Do you take heavy duty trucks or just pickups?

Both. The shop handles pickup diesels as well as heavy duty truck repair, including drivetrain work and fleet diesel service. If you run a small fleet out of the Commerce area, we can set up recurring service so trucks come in on a schedule instead of breaking down on a job site.

When is the shop open?

Hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM Friday, and closed Saturday and Sunday. Friday afternoon is tight, so schedule bigger jobs earlier in the week if you can.

What makes a diesel lose power on hills or when towing?

Low power under load usually comes down to fuel delivery or airflow. Clogged filters, a sticking turbo vane, a boost leak, or weak injectors all show up the same way: fine empty, gutted on a grade. A diagnostic visit sorts out which one it is before any parts get swapped.
